Coorg Through The Seasons
Coorg is a popular spot for tourists as it has amazing views and friendly locals. However, in order to have the most enjoyable time, you need to know when to visit this destination. This is what you can expect each season in Coorg.
Coorg During The Summer Months
When: March Through May
Summer Events: Shivarathri
This is a popular time to visit Coorg as temperatures remain less than 34 degrees Celsius, so it isn't too hot or too cold. Because the weather is so nice, it can get crowded. This means that you may need to wait in line at popular attractions and you should book your hotel reservations early in order to get the room that you want. It isn't quite as crowded as it tends to be in the winter though, so it can still be a less popular time of year to visit.
Coorg During Monsoon Season
When: June Through September
Monsoon Season Events: Madikeri Dassera, Kailmahurtha and Podu
This season, by far, is the rainiest. It will seem to rain buckets almost daily, especially in June. However, many travelers still flock to the area as it's a welcome escape from their day to day life. If you don't mind the rain, you will experience less crowds than you would during the summer or winter months. You may also be able to get a good deal as far as travel expenses go. The area does look absolutely gorgeous in the rain so if you do visit Coorg during this time, you might want to grab an umbrella and do a bit of exploring on days to where the rainfall isn't so heavy.
Coorg During The Winter
When: October Through February
Winter Events: Huthri, Pattadakal Dance Festival, Pongal, Thai Pushyam and Kaveri Sankramana
The winter months bring with it no torrential rains and cooler weather. Some days the temperature will remain less than 13 degrees Celsius. Tourists can feel the energy of the locals during this time with the holidays just around the corner. If you are wanting to visit a place where you can experience some of the holiday traditions of a culture, Coorg is the place to do it. You will find a lot of events going on with many of them centered around Christmas and New Years. This makes for quite an enjoyable experience, if you are the kind of traveler that likes a lot of excitement occurring all around you.
